What is Science?
Life is comprised of living organisms that share important characteristics: all living things have DNA and are made up of cells, have different levels of organization, use energy and metabolize it, respond and adapt to their environment, grow and develop, and reproduce.
So what exactly is science? Science is the ongoing discovery of past and present life of our universe and even examines universes beyond ours! It is continuously studied by scientists in hopes to refine and expand current knowledge. And the information that is found is powerful and helps us every day. Science is also an intellectual activity; scientists use the Scientific Method to make observations about our world based on aspects that can be measured and quantified. The ideas that are generated then can be tested, verified, falsified, or modified.
There are four different fields of science: biology, chemistry, physics, and earth sciences. These general fields split into more sub-categories such as genetics, evolution, and astronomy. Some have fancier names like virology and cyrogenics! Class, it is an exciting world out there, so let us get started.
