Internet Use and Safety
Using the internet in today's society has become a necessity, but are you using it safely?
Identity Theft:
Facebook, Twitter, etc. has allowed people to come into contact with others that they would not have otherwise. It is important to remember not to give out personal information to anyone you meet online, or to any website in general. Not everyone is what he or she claims to be and your personal information can be used in ways to hurt you. And information that is posted on the internet never goes away, even if you try to delete it; this includes pictures and videos. Information can be shared very easily across the internet.
Cyberbullying:
When interacting with others online, I expect you all to behave with the same courtesy as you would if you were having a face to face conversation. Cyberbullying is the same as if you were bullying someone in the classroom.
Other Types of Internet Use:
Be mindful of incoming emails from strangers or websites. Viruses that harm computers can come in the form of an email attachment when downloaded. If you do not know who is sending the email to you, it would be best to delete it. An adult should be consulted if you would like to download anything from the internet. Strong passwords can help keep your computer safe. Choose ones that are difficult to guess and never share it with anyone. Also, beware of the sites that you visit. The internet has many sites that have inappropriate content.
If you are unsure or have any questions about the internet, ask a trusted adult or teacher.
