Digital Interactives
Below are a few digital interactives that will help you practice what we have learned in class on our unit in genetics. Have fun!
Quizlet is an online flashcards tool that allows the user to get acquainted with vocabulary terms. Feel free to create your own terms with audio and visuals and track your own progress, or use the set that I have provided. Once you have familiarized yourself, quiz yourself through the website or print the flashcards out to use with your classmates.

Explore Learning has provided a digital interactive Gizmo featuring mouse genetics that allows the user to play around with one genetic trait, which in this case is fur color. Try breeding two pure black mice and compare the outcome to when you breed two pure white mice. What does the first generation look like when you breed a pure white mouse with a pure black mouse? What are the phenotypes of the second generation when you breed two heterozygous mice? What are their genotypes?

The Enlivening Genetics Education project has created a Mendelian genetics “lab” to simulate the work of Gregor Mendel. Walk through this interactive “lab” with Mendel and study the characteristics of pea plants. You can try breeding different combinations of pea plants to observe the effects of inheritance and make predictions about what you can expect to see. What are the dominant traits? What about recessive? Do your best to keep track of which traits are which to help make appropriate predictions.

Quintessential Instructional Archive allows instructors to create online activities to aid students with class materials. The interactive that I have chosen for you is similar to “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”. After studying for our unit on genetics, play this game to see your preparedness for our exam. You are allowed three hints but if you miss one question, you must start from the beginning! Read thoroughly and good luck.
